THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION

Members of the Public Service Commission are appointed by the Governor-General for a period of three (3) years. The Commission consist of a Chairman and four other members who shall be appointed as follows:-

  1. The Chairman and two members shall be appointed by the Governor-General, acting in accordance with the advice of the Prime Minister;
  2. Two members shall be appointed by the Governor-General, acting in accordance with the advice of the Prime Minister after the Prime Minister has consulted the appropriate representative bodies.

The Public Service Commission is made up of the following members:

Organizational Structure

 

 

Objectives

  • To obtain funding for the construction and furnishing of office space for the Office of the Public Service Commission
  • To finalize the revised Public Service Regulations & Staff Orders
  • To automate/computerize the Public Service Commission's records and the dissemination of the Minutes at Meetings
  • To enhance the human resource capacity of the Office of the Public Service Commission
  • To increase awareness of the role of the Office of the Public Service Commission

Mandate

The Grenada Constitution Order of 1973 authorized the origin of the Office of the Public Service Commission (OPSC).  Its functions include:-

  1. the appointment of persons to hold or act in offices in the Public Service;
  2. the confirmation of officers in such offices;
  3. the termination of officers, whenever necessary;
  4. the exercise of disciplinary control over persons holding or acting in those offices,
  5. the grant of leave, in accordance with the relevant legislations.

Responsibilities

To have persons required by the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure (the Budget) appointed, confirmed, assigned, disciplined, terminated and granted leave in accordance with the relevant legislation and the direction of the Commission.
