The Press Secretary is the primary spokesperson and media liaison for the Office of the Prime Minister and is responsible for managing all communication from the office, ensuring alignment with established priorities and key messages of the Government. The Press Secretary is also responsible for coordinating all the public relations activities of the Office of the Prime Minister, facilitating questions on behalf of the Prime Minister and the Government; maintaining contact with local and foreign media and monitoring media coverage of the Prime Minister. The Press Secretary provides communications advice to the Office of the Prime Minister and executes public relations campaigns using all forms of media. Responsibilities include the drafting of speeches and press releases and hosting live weekly Post-Cabinet Press Briefings.
The current Press Secretary is Philomena Robertson, a communications expert with more than 25 years of experience in journalism and media relations, spread across multiple platforms including radio, television, online and social media and magazine publication.
Ms. Robertson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with a concentration in Media Studies and a Master’s degree in Global Affairs, both from New York University.
Ms. Robertson has served in a variety of roles including News Reporter/Editor at the Grenada Broadcasting Network; News Producer at the Caribbean Broadcasting Union, now Caribbean Media Corporation; and Broadcast Associate at CBS News Productions, New York. In the British Virgin Islands, where she lived immediately prior to returning to Grenada, Ms. Robertson held various portfolios in the public and private sector including, Information Officer in the Office of the Premier; PR and Communications Manager for Harneys, an international law firm; Information and Education Manager for the Department of Disaster Management and Communications Specialist with the Financial Services Implementation Unit and the Disaster Recovery Coordinating Committee.
