Tertiary Education & Skills Development

Functions of Tertiary Education

  • Provide policy guidance for the development of post-secondary education and skills development sector including appropriate quality standards, regulations and legislation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Direct the development and reform of higher education
  • Promote the integration of production, teaching and research
  • Facilitate the establishment of multilateral collaborative research and development of programmes to ensure that tertiary education and training remain relevant, and satisfy national development needs
  • Improve adult literacy and numeracy levels to promote workplace readiness
  • Forge and strengthen partnerships with the private sector, non-profit organizations, communities, and educational and skills training organizations for the purpose of increasing participation and improving the quality of a diverse tertiary education sector
  • To maximize use of learning technologies supported by committed qualified competent effective and professional staff.

Functions of Skill development

  • Develop and implement policies and strategies to promote work-based learning and vocational skills training and development
  • Create an establishing an environment to engender interest and participation in skills development ad technical and vocational programmes
  • Identify and resolve challenges for addressing skills development needs
  • Provide infrastructure for entrepreneurship skills development
  • Promote, develop and support benchmarking standards for qualification in skills development
  • Develop curriculum for vocational education and standards for assessment
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of skills development programme
  • Forge strategic partnership for the delivery of skills development programmes and initiatives
  • Build capacity for the delivery of quality and sustainable skills training and development
  • Expand access to inclusive skills training and development initiatives
  • Provide guidance for the development and reform of employment-oriented vocational education
  • Facilitate the establishment of multilateral collaborative research and development programmes to ensure training remains relevant, and satisfies national development needs
  • Promote alignment of skills development outputs to labour market needs and to the broader growth needs of the economy.
  • Develop and maintain national skills database

Functions of Education Outreach

  • Develop and provide the necessary infrastructure to allow for greater access to a wider range of educational ad skills development training opportunities
  • Support decentralization of training maximizing the use of out-parish programmes of the T.A. Marryshow Community College and creating other avenues for training throughout the six parishes
  • Coordinate the enhancement and/or implementation of community library services, including the creation of digital library
  • Identify mutually beneficial opportunities and partnership with community organizations, including arts, civic, service and faith-based groups
  • Partner with and support outreach efforts of Parent¬†Teacher Associations and school leadership teams to foster learner diversity and improve the physical and the mental well-being of individuals
  • Develop, implement and monitor inclusive, community-based education and skills development programme
