Food Security Initiative

The Agricultural Division in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, under it’s Food Security Program, today handed over items to some 20 young farmers on the sister-isle to assist them in their farming.

Items such as fencing wires, water tanks, sand, gravel, cement, lumber, feeders, waterers and shade netting are just a few amongst many that farmers benefited under the initiative.

Senior Agricultural Officer in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Mr. Benson Patrice, in speaking at the hand over ceremony held at the Limlair Livestock Station said that for 2018 the program focuses on empowering young upcoming farmers and women in agriculture.

He added that the selection process was done upon assessment and verification by the extension officers in finding persons who best fit the criteria.

Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Hon. Kindra Maturine-Stewart, in her remarks, encouraged farmers to make best use of the items given to aid in their farming.

She noted that for the year 2019, the program will seek to benefit over 40 farmers in Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
