Scope

The Grenada Produce Chemist Laboratory provides a wide range of technical and analytical services to existing and potential manufacturing enterprises, as well as other Agencies.

Analytical Facilities

We offer a wide range of analytical services – chemical; microbiological and physico-chemical – important for production and sustainable growth, on a wide range of products e.g. water, jams, jellies, preserves, seasonings, beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), spices, cocoa, ice-cream, fish and fish products and other manufactured goods and materials.

Research & Development

To continually strengthen the knowledge and information base on a variety of products, and provide support to desiring personnel, small-scale experimental work, semi-commercial pilot plant studies and sensory evaluation are performed.

Formulations are available, and Product Development Services available on request.

Pilot Plant Facilities

Facilities are available for processing fruit syrups, juices, alcoholic beverages, dried fruits, jams and jellies, meat and meat products, fish and fish products, among others.

Technical Assistance

The GPCL has the staff and facilities to provide solutions to a wide range of food processing and industry problem

We can assist in determining raw material requirements, equipment requirement and packaging for manufacturing operations layout (process flow) etc.

Quality Assurance/ Quality Control

This is an integral part of research and development and processing.

  • An assessment of raw material specifications.
  • Determination of in-line QC parameters e.g. Brix and pH.
  • Microbiological Tests.
  • Physical and Chemical Characteristics.
  • Microbiological Characteristics.

Training

The PCL offers workshops, CVQ level 1&2 Agro Food Processing, lectures, demonstrations, seminars & attachments. We collaborate with Government, Non-governmental Organizations & Institution to deliver training in and information in the public and private sector.
