The Gavel

The Gavel

The Gavel is used to maintain order and give directions during a Parliament Sitting.

  • One tap of the gavel is a message for Members to be seated, following the completion of a business item or is done after adjournment is passed
  • Two taps of the gavel indicate the meeting is called to order.
  • Three taps of the gavel signal Members to stand up on the Third tap.
  • A quick series of taps is used to restore order to the meeting.
