Electrical Inspection & Approval

The Electrical Inspection service allows for verification of electrical circuitry and metering and approval to provide electrical connection. The same procedure maybe used to avail approval for alternative energy from solar, wind and other sources.

Service Information

All electrical installation must have an electrical inspection performed and a valid license must be obtained prior to installing electrical wiring. This is done to ensure that the installation meets the requirements minimum electrical safety. It is also required to provide consistency and uniformity in application of laws, rules, codes and standards concerning electrical installations.

The Electrical Codes followed are IEE Wiring Regulations and the Grenada Building Guidelines

Persons desiring to have new electrical connections, or changes to their wiring and electrical layout, are required to fill the required Electrical Inspection form through a licensed Wireman or Electrician. Types of electrical inspections include

  1. Temporary installation: such as for crusade, construction, events etc.
  2. Permanent installation: residential, commercial, industrial, etc.
  3. Alterations: reconnection, meter relocation etc.
  4. Inspection of swimming pools
  5. Inspection of solar panels

A licensed Officer from the Electrical Inspectorate Department of the Ministry of Works shall visit the site and make the necessary assessments, following which approvals are provided.

Electrical Inspection and Approvals are required for Grenlec to provide the necessary power to the facility under consideration.

Pre-requisites
  1. Completion of wiring in the premise / facility.
  2. Electrical layout diagram for new facilities. Existing and proposed changes for alterations and extensions
  3. Electrical Bill ID / Customer Number of existing power supply systems (as applicable).
Process Steps
  1. Register yourself online
  2. Fill the Electrical Inspection form online. Alternately, request the form to be filled by the licensed Wireman / Electrician who wired your facility.
  3. As an option, you can upload a hand filled form. Ensure completeness of form, and obtain the signature of the wireman before uploading the same.
  4. Make necessary payments. Payment depends on the facility, changes, and kind of power and extensions required for events, and hence review the fee card and make payments. (*The visiting officer shall evaluate the appropriateness and correctness of the payment during their visit, and discrepancies if any shall be collected accordingly)
  5. Your form status and approval can be tracked by you, once you log into the system.
Payment Details

Fees are applicable and amount dues depend on the power, nature of the facilities, among others (see fee table below). Consult the fee card, or talk to your licensed Wireman to clarify and make necessary payments

NB. All inspections will be charged at the commercial rates accordingly.

$75.00 per stall applicable to food and beverage for carnival. Extra ordinary investigation fees apply to all other such projects.
